Local News in Brief : Countywide : Chorale Board Meets to Consider Merger
- Share via
The board of the Pacific Chorale will meet at 4 p.m. today to act on an 8-month-old proposal to merge with the Master Chorale of Orange County.
Merger talks, which began in January, have been fueled by increasing competition between the two groups for donations and by the hope that a consolidation of their audiences would help to fill the 3,000-seat Segerstrom Hall at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.
Being considered today is a formal merger statement co-written by the chairmen of both chorales, according to a spokesman for the Pacific Chorale.
Among the issues to be resolved is who will lead the new group. John Alexander has been music director of the Pacific Chorale since 1971. William Hall was appointed music director of the Master Chorale in November.
