Parents of Abandoned Boy and Girl Are Sought

The parents, or relatives, of two small children--believed to be brother and sister--who were abandoned last month in East Los Angeles were being sought by authorities Tuesday.
The children--a girl, about one year old and a boy about two months old--were left in the care of a babysitter on July 22 by a woman who identified herself only as Maria, who authorities believe to be the mother.
The 60-year-old babysitter, who lives in the 700 block of Clela Avenue, told Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators that the woman left the children at about 5 p.m., saying she would return for them in two hours.
When the woman failed to appear the next day, the babysitter called authorities and the children were placed in protective custody by the county.
Anyone with information on the children, or their mother, is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at (213)264-4151, or the Department of Children’s Services at (213) 482-7746.
