Anti-abortionists staged their largest demonstration in Atlanta in four weeks, and authorities arrested 157 protesters, charging two dozen of them with felony counts for a brief confrontation with police. Most of those arrested outside the Atlanta SurgiCenter were charged with criminal trespass and obstructing the road and sidewalks, officers said, but 24 protesters were charged with battery and obstructing a police officer, both felonies. Several protesters rushed a police line, shoving and pushing police. The demonstration was the largest since the protests began during the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta, and brought to more than 500 the number of demonstrators arrested.
