OXNARD — The Raiders on Tuesday cut guard Brad Budde and punter Ralph Giacomarro, and obtained veteran punter Jeff Gossett from the Houston Oilers in a trade for past considerations.
Budde, 30, spent eight years with the Kansas City Chiefs after a career at USC that included the Lombardi Award in 1979, an honor given annually to the top collegiate lineman.
The Raiders had signed Budde last spring as a free agent, but he had been sidelined the last few weeks with a sprained ankle.
Gossett, 31, is an eight-year veteran who has made stops in Dallas, San Diego, Kansas City and Cleveland in the National Football League, and Portland and Chicago in the United States Football League before winding up in Houston for the last four games of last season.
Gossett, who has a career 41.2 punting average, will compete with incumbent Stan Talley for the job.
