Striper Action Hot in Arizona

Anglers at Arizona’s Willow Beach--which a decade ago was considered one of the greatest rainbow trout fisheries in the United States--are experiencing the best striped bass fishing of the year.
The stripers, which like to feed on young trout, have apparently become so active recently that anglers have been catching them with rare consistency.
“They’re even pulling them off the beach,” a landing spokesman said. “It’s the first time we’ve ever had them caught from shore. I don’t know if it’s a fluke or what. People usually catch one striper now and then, but now they’re catching 2-3 (stripers) a day.”
The fish are ranging from 8 pounds near the marina to 25 pounds a mile downriver. Las Vegas resident Jim Tener caught a 30-pounder last Thursday.
