Already the political quotient of the Amnesty International/Reebok Foundation “Human Rights Now!” tour has risen a notch. In Budapest, Hungary, Sting, due to perform on Tuesday at the first international concert in Eastern Europe in support of human rights, condemned Romania’s treatment of its ethnic Hungarian minority. The British singer and songwriter criticized travel restrictions imposed on ethnic Hungarians wanting to leave the country. “People in Romania are being repressed as a minority,” said Sting, waving a copy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Budapest concert, also featuring Bruce Springsteen and Peter Gabriel, is the third stop on a six-week world tour to mark the 40th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
