The southbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway between Harvard Avenue and Jeffrey Road in Irvine will be closed Thursday at midnight and remain that way until 5 a.m. Friday, allowing work crews time to relocate overhead sign structures, Caltrans spokesman Albert Miranda said Tuesday.
Well-marked detour signs will move traffic from the freeway at Harvard, east on Culver Drive to Alton Parkway to Jeffrey Road and back to the 405, Miranda said.
Next Monday at midnight, all the northbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway will be closed between Culver Drive and Jamboree Road in Irvine for similar sign relocation work. The freeway will reopen at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
A detour will begin at Culver and traffic will be rerouted north to Main Street over to Jamboree and back to the 405.
The work is part of the widening of the 405 from eight to 10 lanes.
