Solidarity’s national spokesman won renewed support from President Reagan and urged Polish authorities to make good on their pledge to negotiate with the banned independent trade union. After meeting with Reagan in Washington, Janusz Onyszkiewicz said that the President is committed to maintaining pressure on the Polish government. He also predicted more Polish strikes unless the government adheres to its pledge to negotiate. “People are expecting that some kind of compromise, finally, will be thrashed out. . . ,” he said.
