MONTREAL — Former Yale President A. Bartlett Giamatti, who earned a reputation as “the dean of discipline” during his short tenure as National League president, today was voted to a five-year term as baseball commissioner. Giamatti, long considered Peter Ueberroth’s likely successor, will take office next April 1. Ueberroth, who became commissioner on Oct. 1, 1984, will leave office three months before the scheduled end of his term.
