Local News in Brief : Quake Measured at Between 3.8 and 4

An earthquake registering a magnitude of between 3.8 and 4 rumbled through the South Bay at 6:24 a.m. Monday. There were no reports of damage or injury.
Steve Bryant, an analyst at the Caltech Seismology Laboratory in Pasadena, said the temblor was centered under Santa Monica Bay, about 4 miles southwest of El Segundo. Police and fire officials reported a number of calls from South Bay resident, most of them more curious than concerned about the quake.
Caltech recorded the quake at 3.8 and the National Earthquake Center in Golden, Colo., had a reading of 4.0. Such discrepancies are common, officials said.
