Floods Kill 170 in South China

BEIJING — Torrential rains and widespread flooding across southern China have killed 170 people and made more than 110,000 homeless, state television said Monday. It said 1.5 million soldiers and civilians are battling floodwaters in Hunan province and 30,000 people have been evacuated from Wuhan in nearby Hubei.
The newspaper People’s Daily said Monday that the floods are the worst to hit Hunan in 30 years.
