Crespi Looks at Big Picture for Gate Appeal

The Crespi High football program has outgrown itself, or at least its cozy on-campus stadium.
Because of increased attention and the prospect of increased gate receipts, Crespi has moved two more home games to off-campus sites rather than turn away customers at its 3,000-seat venue.
The Celts’ Oct. 7 home game against Muir has been moved to Pierce College, and Crespi’s game against Del Rey League rival Alemany, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 14, has been moved to Oct. 15 and also will be played at Pierce.
Last season, Crespi made an estimated $25,000 by moving its league game against Loyola to Birmingham, where a sellout crowd of 11,500 attended.
Crespi’s game against Orange County power Servite is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. Crespi defeated Servite in last year’s playoffs, 45-38.
Additionally, Crespi had considered moving Friday night’s game against Palmdale to Saturday at Birmingham High, but Palmdale has a game scheduled the following Thursday and needed more than four days of preparation, Crespi Athletic Director Paul Muff said. The Palmdale game will be the only game played at Crespi this season. It will be broadcast by KWNK-AM (670), starting at 7 p.m. Game time is 7:30.
