Kansas City Confidential (Channel 7 Tuesday at 1 a.m.): A taut 1952 Phil Karlson action film in which John Payne plays an ex-con framed for a robbery he didn’t commit; marred by a sappy ending but Karlson was one of the masters of the B picture. (2:00)
Olympia (USA Wednesday and Thursday at 3:30 a.m.): Relatively free of propaganda and nationalistic zeal, Nazi documentarian Leni Riefenstahl’s film of the 1936 Olympics still remains the definitive Olympic film in the eyes of many. A prodigious feat of cinematography and editing.
Educating Rita (Channel 2 Friday at 11:35 p.m.): In between the jokes there’s real substance and sharp perceptions in this 1983 British comedy about a bright, brassy hairdresser (irresistible Julie Walters) who enrolls in a venerable university’s free evening program and draws an alcoholic literature professor (Michael Caine, in top form) for her weekly tutorial. (2:15)
The Blood of a Poet (Z Saturday at 10 a.m.): Jean Cocteau’s 1930 surrealistic classic. (0:53)
Once Upon a Time in America (Z Saturday at 3 p.m.): The uncut version of Sergio Leone’s epic 1984 homage to the American gangster saga, a rich and stunning vision. Robert De Niro and James Woods star. (3:49)
