Heathrow Express Rail Link Gets OK

LONDON — A new high-speed rail link to shuttle passengers from central London to outlying Heathrow Airport at 100 m.p.h. has been approved by the Department of Transport.
The $325-million Heathrow Express will whisk 10 million passengers a year from London’s Paddington Station to the airport, a 17-minute trip.
A comparable trip on the London Underground--the city’s subway--takes about an hour. Journeys by car and bus can take even longer.
A slower direct rail service already links Gatwick Airport, south of London, with Victoria train station, one of the city’s major rail hubs.
