Local News in Brief : L.A. Expands New Crime Alert Program

Los Angeles’ Crime Alert program has been expanded so that bulletins with fugitives’ photographs will be distributed to 34,000 employees at local community colleges and 22 businesses, city Controller Rick Tuttle announced Tuesday.
Tuttle had earlier arranged for 36,000 city employees to receive copies of the bulletins in their paychecks.
The latest Crime Alert bulletin includes photos of a man wanted for a double murder in Miami and two suspects in an embezzling scheme involving Los Angeles International Airport parking facilities, along with descriptions of the two crimes.
“We have yet to catch anyone . . . but we’ve had phone calls and some leads,” said Tuttle, who plans to issue a bulletin six times a year.
Among the firms participating are City National Bank, Fedco Inc., Lockheed Federal Credit Union, Los Angeles Credit Union, Marriott Hotels, the Century Plaza Hotel, Health Net and Collins Food International.
