Local News in Brief : Rail Right of Way Bought for Greenbelt
- Share via
After years of public debate and prolonged negotiations, an agreement has been reached for Hermosa Beach to buy the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway’s right of way.
Hermosa Beach will pay $7.5 million for the 20-acre, 100-foot-wide strip that bisects the community, city and railroad officials announced Thursday.
The purchase roughly doubles the amount of open land in the city. For years, citizens have been asking the city to purchase the strip to maintain it as a greenbelt.
