3,000 Attend Armenian Festival
An estimated 3,000 members of Los Angeles’ Armenian community turned out Sunday at Barnsdall Park for the third annual Armenian Cultural Festival. Festival goers were treated to a variety of Armenian folk music and dancing while enjoying such favorites as stuffed grape leaves and beurak (pastry) washed down with cold tahn (yogurt and water).
Mayor Tom Bradley attended the festival, as did Councilmen Michael Woo and Zev Yaroslavsky. About 250,000 Armenians live in Los Angeles, more than anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere. Armenia is a republic of the Soviet Union.
