PREP FOOTBALL : Mills’ Only Catch Is a Winner for Santa Ana Valley

Wide receiver Justin Mills caught a 59-yard pass from quarterback Augustine Osegura for a touchdown with 54 seconds left to lead Santa Ana Valley High School to a 17-10 victory over Villa Park in the Century League opener for both teams Friday in front of 1,700 in Santa Ana Stadium.
Mills broke 3 tackles before scoring. It was his only reception of the game. Osegura completed 9 of 13 passes for 160 yards.
A 38-yard field goal by Santa Ana Valley’s Manop Phionovwong with 9:13 left in the third quarter tied the score, 10-10.
Coury Martinez blocked a 30-yard field goal attempt by Villa Park’s Ted Burnett on the final play of the third quarter. Burnett later missed on a 31-yard attempt with 5:19 remaining in the game.
Villa Park took a 7-0 lead on its first possession when running back Jomo Stewart scored on a 3-yard run.
A 33-yard run by Jesse Brooks of Santa Ana Valley tied the score, 7-7, late in the first quarter.
Burnett kicked a 20-yard field goal with 3:02 left in the second quarter to give Villa Park (1-5, 0-1) a 10-7 lead.
