Cal State Dominguez Hills’ climb toward the top of the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. soccer standings continued Wednesday as the Toros topped Cal State Bakersfield, 2-0, at Bakersfield.
First-half goals by Joe Flanagan and Willie Ayala were all CSUDH goalkeeper Chris Wilson needed to secure the team’s second consecutive shutout. Wilson finished with eight saves, while Ken Lawson stopped just five of CSUDH’s seven shots on goal.
The victory was the Toros’ seventh in their last eight games and pushes them into second place with a 4-1 CCAA mark (10-4 overall), just one point behind Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, which has a 4-1-1 record. Bakersfield dropped to 10-3-1 overall and 2-3 in the league.
CSUDH’s next action is Saturday at Cal Poly Pomona beginning at 1:00 p.m.
