Fire in Tower Closes Dallas Airport Briefly

GRAPEVINE, Tex. — An electrical fire broke out Thursday in the control tower at Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport, temporarily suspending operations and diverting flights to other airports for about an hour, officials said.
The fire, which began during the noontime rush, one of the busiest times of day for air travel, forced evacuation of the tower at the world’s fourth-busiest airport.
The fire at the base of the Federal Aviation Administration tower was extinguished within minutes, an airport spokesman said. A technician who was working on an electrical panel when it burst into flames was treated for minor burns.
