‘Amazing Grace’ Tops List of Hymns

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Southern Baptist committee working on a new hymnal says a random survey of music directors finds that “Amazing Grace” is the most frequently sung hymn in Baptist churches.
Nine of the next most frequently sung hymns in this order were:
“To God Be the Glory,” “Victory in Jesus,” “Just as I Am,” “Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine,” “Standing on the Promises,” “Living for Jesus,” “There Is Power in the Blood,” “At the Cross” and “At Calvary.”
These and 190 other frequently sung hymns were recommended for inclusion in the new hymnal to be published in 1991, a revision of a 1975 edition.
