Chief of Armenian KGB Is Replaced

MOSCOW — The chief of the KGB security police in Soviet Armenia has been replaced, the republic’s Communist Party newspaper Kommunist said.
Marius Yuzbashyan, who had headed the Armenian KGB for the past 10 years, was transferred to other work, the Tuesday edition of Kommunist reported. The newspaper, which reached Moscow on Thursday, did not describe his new position.
He was replaced by Valeriya Badamyanits, a 48-year-old member of the Central Committee, Kommunist said.
The republic has been shaken this year by mass demonstrations demanding that Nagorno-Karabakh, a largely Armenian enclave in neighboring Azerbaijan, be transferred to Armenian control.
