Cleveland 14, Canoga Park 12--Cleveland linebacker Al Martinez stopped Canoga Park running back Jason Mitchell for no gain on a 2-point conversion attempt with 23 seconds left to preserve Cleveland’s victory. Canoga Park had driven 67 yards in 13 plays to score on Mitchell’s 1-yard touchdown run that set up the game-tying attempt.
Mitchell rushed for 35 yards in 13 carries and scored 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Dave Erhardt completed 10 of 18 for 86 yards.
Cleveland scored the first time it touched the ball as Sean Burwell raced 87 yards to give the Cavaliers a 7-0 lead. Burwell finished with a game-high 225 yards in 16 carries. Quarterback Lee Gatewood scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.
