High School Top 10 : Oceanside Drops to Seventh Spot; RBV Is Still No. 1

SAN DIEGO — Oceanside High, ranked No. 1 in the state only 3 weeks ago, suffered more setbacks last week and tumbled to No. 7 in this week’s Times San Diego County high school football rankings.
The Pirates (6-2) lost to San Pasqual Friday night, 19-0, and then lost quarterback Jerry Garrett for the season because of grade problems. After winning its first 5 games--all impressively--Oceanside has fallen to third in the Avocado League and is now just trying to survive long enough to gain a playoff berth. Oceanside plays at San Marcos Friday.
Rancho Buena Vista, which began Oceanside’s problems with a 35-22 victory over the Pirates in Week 6, maintained its No. 1 ranking after a 62-28 victory over Ramona. Rancho Buena Vista, the top scoring team in the county at 41.6 points per game, led, 62-7, in the fourth quarter.
