On Tuesday classic rocker Jerry Lee Lewis filed a personal bankruptcy petition listing more than $3 million in debts, including $2 million owed to the Internal Revenue Service, court records show. Lewis filed the petition in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Memphis, Tenn. He listed 22 creditors seeking more than $3 million, including hospital fees. Among these: The Whiskey River Club in Nashville ($950,000); Memphis lawyer Irving Salky ($40,000 in “alleged attorney fees”); Eastwood Hospital in Memphis ($15,500) and St. Francis Hospital, also in Memphis ($10,000). Other debts include lease payments for a Cadillac and a Corvette. (On the low end of the scale is the $119 Lewis owes the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.) Lewis’ life is just in the process of being immortalized in a film, “Great Balls of Fire,” which is being shot in Memphis.
