A migrant worker was killed early Wednesday when he ran across California 78 west of Nordahl Road in Escondido and was struck by a car, Sheriff’s Department officials said.
Onecimo Gallegos Ponce, 38, from Mexico, was taken to Palomar Hospital at 6:15 a.m. and died of internal injuries at 8:30 a.m., a coroner’s deputy said.
According to two witnesses, Ponce hurled himself under the car. Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the possibility of suicide.
