TOKYO — Police dispatched 400 officers Thursday to investigate a series of attacks in a residential section east of Tokyo in which six children as young as age 2 have been stabbed in the abdomen.
Kaichi Sato of the Chiba prefectural police said a police helicopter was also flown over residential areas, 21 miles east of Tokyo, to broadcast warnings to children not to walk alone on city streets.
The stepped-up police effort came after a 2-year-old boy was stabbed by a man with a sharp object while playing alone on a street in front of his house Wednesday.
