South Coast Community Church will begin construction Monday on a $7-million renovation and expansion, including a new, 3-story, 71,000-square-foot Community Life Building.
The $3.7-million building equals twice the area contained in the present buildings on the isolated 13-acre site at 5120 Bonita Canyon Drive, church officials said.
The first floor will contain a preschool and day-care center for 150 children from the community at large. The second will have rooms for classes, conferences and meetings. Pastoral and administrative offices will be on the third floor.
Construction is expected to be completed by September.
The church’s nondenominational congregation has grown in 8 years from 400 to more than 10,000 members, church administrator Rob Wilson said.
The contractor for the project is Elliott Corp. of Newport Beach. Architects are Hastings Lundstrom Architects Inc. of Irvine. An investment bond issue will pay for the project, handled by B.C. Zigler Investment Bankers of West Bend, Wis.
