City’s 2nd Round Scheduled for Next Wednesday
- Share via
The City Section has scheduled the second round of its football playoffs for next Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving and only 5 days after this Friday’s first-round games.
In recent years, the City has not scheduled games for Thanksgiving week, but this year’s format calls for 4 rounds in the playoffs, 1 more than in previous years.
The Southern Section also uses a 4-round playoff system but schedules games for the Friday after Thanksgiving. City games have been scheduled for Wednesday because school officials want to keep the 4-day Thanksgiving holiday intact, according to City Section Commissioner Hal Harkness.
Teams will be allowed to practice Saturday.
The schedule might be advantageous to 4 league champions in the 12-team, 4-A Division field. Those champions, including San Fernando (North Valley) and Taft (West Valley), earned first-round byes.
