Tennis Roundup : Top-Seeded Krickstein Ousted by Javier Sanchez in 2nd Round

Spain’s Javier Sanchez defeated top-seeded Aaron Krickstein, 6-1, 7-6, Wednesday in a second-round match of the $305,000 Citibank Open tournament at Itaparica, Brazil, an island 1,100 miles northeast of Rio de Janiero.
Sanchez, ranked 60th in the world, had little difficulty beating Krickstein, rated 15th, in a match played in 104-degree heat.
Second-seeded Andrei Chesnokov of the Soviet Union advanced by beating Jim Courier, 1-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Argentina’s Martin Jaite, fifth seeded, defeated Peru’s Pablo Arraya, 7-6, 6-3, and Jaime Yzaga, also of Peru, beat Uruguay’s Marcelo Filippini, 1-6, 7-5, 6-0. Uruguay’s Diego Perez defeated Argentina’s Horacio de la Pena, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0.
In other matches, Argentina’s Alberto Mancini beat Brazil’s Cassio Motta, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6, Spain’s Sergio Casal defeated Brazil’s Danilo Marcelino, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4, and Argentina’s Javier Frana downed Brazil’s Marcelo Hennemann, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6.
Top-seeded Henri Leconte and second-seeded Jakob Hlasek scored straight-set victories, but two other seeds were upset at the Belgian Indoor Championship at Brussels.
Leconte, of France, beat Italian Diego Nargiso, 7-6, 6-2, and Hlasek, of Switzerland, swept past Alberto Tous of Spain, 6-1, 7-5, to reach the second round of the $490,000 event.
But in second-round play, West German Eric Jelen edged Haitian Ronald Agenor, seeded fifth, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, and Eric Winogradsky of France ousted sixth-seeded Milan Srejber of Czechoslovakia, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, to reach the quarterfinals.
Australian Wally Masur, the eighth seed, survived an upset bid by beating West German Michael Westphal, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, in the second round. Another Australian, Russel Barlow lost to Tom Nijssen of the Netherlands, 6-3, 6-0.
