A three-month exhibition of paintings by Israeli artist Chaim Mekel opened this week at City Hall, 8611 Santa Monica Blvd., as part of West Hollywood’s “Art in the Hall” series.
The Mekel retrospective, titled “Light,” includes much of the artist’s completed work over the last 25 years, event supervisor Barbara Burns said.
Mekel was born in Austria and raised in Israel. A protege of master impressionist Elia Cohen, he studied at the Fine Art School of Tel Aviv and the Beaux Arts Villa Suisse in Paris. Three of his works are on display in Israel’s Museum of Fine Art.
The exhibit may be viewed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday through the end of April, Burns said.
