Who’s got time to cook when there’s the Super Bowl to watch?
City-To-Go, 180 S. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles. (213) 938-2158. Style: Bright lights/big city with large, eclectic take-out menu. Recommended: Vegetarian platter ($10.50); club sandwich ($9.50). There is also a 10% packing charge on items prepared to go.
Mumtaz, 7166 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles. (213) 933-2945. Style: Neighborhood Indian cuisines including tandoori , curries and vegetarian fare. Recommended: A whole leg of lamb served Muglai style with a massala sauce, appetizers and desserts. (All for $80. Feeds 15-20 and requires deposit and 24-hour notice).
Sabroso, 1029 West Washington Blvd., Venice. (213) 399-3832. Style: South of the Border offering muchisimo made-to-order delights. Breakfast and lunch selections change daily, and there’s a paper menu you can take home so you can order dinner by telephone. Recommended : Corn posole ($4.75); turkey tacos ($3.50 for two); duck tacos ($5 for two).
Tatiana’s, 8205 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood. (213) 656-7500. Style: Russian-Jewish delicatessen serving enough delicacies to satisfy both goys and dolls. Recommended: Koulibiac, a whole challah stuffed with cabbage and carrots or spiced meat. (Beautiful to look at and about $30; requires two days’ notice.)
Spangles: An American Restaurant, 11714 Barrington Court, Brentwood Village. (213) 472-3287. Style: Beaver Cleaver meets Betty Crocker. Recommended: “Palm Beach” fruit salad ($5.50); macaroni and cheese ($4.95); “Texas style” chili ($4.95). Prices are slightly higher at dinner time.
