Fluor Corp.: The Irvine-based engineering and construction giant reported first-quarter profit of $22 million, more than double the $9 million recorded a year ago. Revenue rose 37% to $1.4 billion. The firm attributed the improvement primarily to gains at Fluor Daniel, its principal engineering and construction unit, as well as investments in coal and lead mining operations.
