WARREN, Mich. — Chrysler Corp. Chairman Lee Iacocca dropped by the company’s stamping plant in this northern Detroit suburb today to hand out profit-sharing checks to four workers.
Iacocca presented the checks while standing in front of a stamping press being tested for full operation in July. He congratulated the workers and they thanked him during the five-minute ceremony.
The company handed out more than $59.9 million in profit-sharing checks to about 82,000 workers, or about $725 each. Ford Motor Co. distributed profit-sharing checks Tuesday averaging about $2,800 apiece, and next Tuesday General Motors Corp. will mail checks of slightly more than $250 per employee. It’s the first time that workers for all of the companies have received the payments in the same year.
