Edwards is right. Radio host Tom Leykis, who destroyed Cat Stevens’ records because of Stevens’ support of Khomeini’s threat against novelist Salman Rushdie, is wrong, as is KFI.
Destroying an artistic product that marked a stage in the artist’s development places a gap in our understanding of history.
A technique used by those who seek to dominate public opinion is to remove from public memory those events that are inconsistent with domination. And a public that approves of such extirpation is simply expressing its own craving to be dominated and manipulated.
