About 30,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the San Diego River on Monday morning after a sewer main clogged at Jackson Drive and Mission Gorge Road, a spokesman for the county Department of Health Services said.
The main became blocked for unknown reasons about 7 a.m. and caused the sewage to overflow through a manhole at the intersection and enter a nearby storm drain, which leads to the river. The effluent was stopped at noon. Signs warning of the contamination were posted.
