Homicide detectives were investigating the early-morning death Monday of a man who was found on a Pacific Beach sidewalk with a bullet wound in his upper torso, a San Diego Police Department spokesman said.
Police found the man, whose name was being held pending notification of his family, alive at about 3:25 a.m. at 2122 Balboa Ave. after a group of citizens had phoned police and told them several shots had been fired in the area. The man died less than an hour later at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Investigators believe the man was shot following an altercation with several men of unknown description, police said. The investigation was continuing.
