“From now on,” Hayslip promised herself, “I would flow only with the strongest current and drift to the steadiest wind,” an opportunistic, though honest, statement. That wind was her husbands and the United States.
I wish she would drift back to Vietnam. This statement has nothing to do with her ethnicity--I believe we owe something to the Vietnamese whom we abandoned. However, this woman was our enemy, and her presence here makes a mockery of the 58,000 names on The Wall in Washington, as well as of every veteran of the war.
