Local News in Brief : Proceeds From Drug Arrests: $3.6 Million

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has been given $2.6 million by U.S. Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.), representing the value of assets it seized in recent drug arrests.
Wilson presented a total of $3.6 million to several local law enforcement agencies during a speech to the California Sheriffs Assn. convention aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
He noted that legislation allowing seizure of cash and sale of assets derived from drug trafficking has provided “a welcome irony that drug pushers are paying for their own arrests.”
Wilson presented a check for almost $500,000 to the Culver City Police Department, which previously has been given $220,000 in forfeiture funds.
