Cerritos : Finalists for State Board to Go to Capital for Interviews

The two juniors from the ABC Unified School District seeking to become the next governor-appointed student representative on the State Board of Education, Paras Mehta and Margie Toy, will fly to Sacramento Tuesday for a final round of interviews.
Barry Tambara, principal of Cerritos High School, is accompanying Mehta to the capital, as is Toy’s principal, Pauline Ferris of Whitney High. Attendance of the principals was requested in a letter sent to the students last week from the assistant to the governor for education.
The interviews, scheduled Tuesday afternoon, are the last steps of an application process that began last fall when nearly 200 California students applied for the position.
Announcement of the appointment is expected in May.
The third finalist, Marlin Smith of Elsinore High School in Riverside County, also is scheduled for interviews in Sacramento on Tuesday.
