The 1988 Summer Olympic Games at Seoul made a record profit of nearly $500 million, more than double the $223-million profit of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Seoul’s final tally put earnings at $987.5 million, with expenditures of $847.7 million, yielding a book profit of $139.8 million. In line with international practice, the official balance sheet does not include cash contributions, which amounted to $355.4 million. Including the contributions, SLOOC’s overall income totaled $1.33 billion, creating a net profit of $497 million, officials said.
