A pedestrian running in the fast lane of the Santa Ana Freeway was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The county coroner’s office is trying to confirm the pedestrian’s identity. A spokesman said the victim was a Latino man about 22 years old.
A CHP dispatcher said the accident occurred about 1 a.m. north of the Riverside Freeway in Fullerton. The pedestrian ran directly into the path of the driver, Michael McQueen, 36, of Simi Valley, according to the CHP.
McQueen was unable to stop, the CHP said, and was neither cited nor injured. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
No vehicles were reported abandoned nearby. The investigation is continuing.
