High School Roundup : El Capitan Slams Past Mt. Miguel for 15-1 Victory

Jason Escoto hit his first home run of the season, a grand slam, to cap an eight-run third inning as El Capitan High School defeated host Mt. Miguel, 15-1, in a Grossmont 3-A baseball game Monday.
Escoto also doubled and went three for four, scored two runs and had five RBIs, and Jeremy McGarity was two for four, including a three-run homer (his sixth), scored three times and drove in four runs.
El Capitan improved to 14-6, 4-1; Mt. Miguel dropped to 2-19, 0-5.
In another Grossmont 3-A game:
Monte Vista 4, Granite Hills 3--With Granite Hills leading, 3-2, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Monte Vista’s Neal Sualstad singled, scoring Darren Ruck to tie the score. Then with runners on first and third, Granite Hills pitcher Shane Spencer balked in the winning run.
Nonleague
Helix 5, El Cajon Valley 2--Rob Ippolito, the second-leading hitter in the county, went two for two and knocked in two runs for Helix (16-4).
City Central
Hoover 15, Lincoln 1--Felipe Preciado drove in five runs with three hits, including a solo home run in the first.
Softball
Avocado League
San Pasqual 5, San Marcos 3--San Pasqual left fielder Suzanne Esposito made a diving catch with two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning to save the game for the visiting Golden Eagles (13-6, 5-3).
