A Palmdale man was shot Sunday when he tried to stab a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, authorities said.
Clark Allen Kimbrough, 25, was in good condition at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center jail ward with gunshot wounds to the thigh and upper arm, Deputy George Ducoulombier said.
Deputy Gary Brody of the Antelope Valley sheriff’s station, who wounded the man, was unhurt in the 4:20 a.m. incident, authorities said.
Brody had approached a Mazda pickup parked in an open field near Palmdale Boulevard and 11th Street East in Palmdale when he saw that the vehicle was stolen, Ducoulombier said. Kimbrough got out of the truck and ran into a back yard, where he pulled out a knife and attempted to stab Brody, authorities said.
Brody, a six-year veteran with the department, fired two shots from his service revolver, Ducoulombier said. A knife was later recovered from the back yard, authorities said.
Kimbrough was being held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, Ducoulombier said.
