Rick Mears upstaged Indianapolis 500 champion Emerson Fittipaldi to win the pole position for the Miller High Life 200 today in Milwaukee.

That put him on the pole for today’s race ahead of Fittipaldi.
Earning spots in the second row were Michael Andretti, with a speed of 155.159 m.p.h. in a Lola-Chevy, and Bobby Rahal, at 154.752 m.p.h. in a Lola-Cosworth.
