A 35-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after she dragged a pregnant woman under her car for a half-mile Saturday before halting at a San Pedro intersection, according to police.
The driver, Brenda Franklin of San Pedro, was taken into custody by officers patrolling the area.
South Bureau Homicide Det. Paul Mize said the victim, an unidentified Latina about 40 years old, is expected to survive despite severe injuries, but the fetus she was carrying died. He said Franklin will be charged with murder if it is determined that the fetus was viable before it died. Franklin is being held at Sybil Brand Institute for Women in Los Angeles.
