Sabre Reservation System to Add Rental Cars, Hotels

DALLAS — AMR Corp., parent of American Airlines, will expand its computerized Sabre reservation system over the next 18 months to include hotel and car rental information, a spokesman said Friday.
The announcement comes one day after American and Delta Air Lines dropped plans to combine their reservations system because of opposition from the Justice Department, which said it feared the move would lead to higher fares and lower competition.
The current American Airlines system, called Sabre, is used primarily by travel agents to book flights and holds 50% of the nation’s travel market.
