Marina Ends 18-Game Losing Streak

Marina High School ended an 18-game losing streak by defeating Lakewood, 17-7, in a nonleague game Thursday at Westminster High.
The Vikings’ (1-3) last victory was 26-25 over Millikan in 1987.
On Thursday, quarterback David Schultz’s completed 16 of 28 passes for 231 yards, with scoring passes of nine yards to Darren Fields and 40 yards to Cristin McLemore.
The Vikings rushed for just 34 yards, but the Lancers (1-3) couldn’t stop Schultz, Fields and McLemore. Fields caught 11 passes for 160 yards and McLemore four for 68.
Lakewood’s only score came on a 58-yard pass from quarterback Robert Fonseca to A.J. Marinelli with 3:29 left in the first half. Fonseca and his backup, Brian Kaveney, combined for 233 yards but they were intercepted four times.
