Grant 24, Monroe 0--Quarterback Marlowe Lewis and running back Shawn Booker accounted for 183 yards and three touchdowns to help the Lancers (4-0, 1-0) to their best start since 1965.
Lewis, who had 90 total yards, scored the Lancers’ first touchdown on a 29-yard run in the first quarter and added the team’s last score on a 30-yard pass to Josh Kesselman in the fourth. Booker, who had 93 yards in 15 carries, scored on a 20-yard run in the third quarter.
Monroe (0-3, 0-1) used three quarterbacks and had eight fumbles (three recovered by Grant). Jesse Wallace, who played tailback and quarterback, carried 14 times for 51 yards and completed three of five passes for 21 yards.
“The kids are trying, but we don’t have enough talented players,” Monroe Coach Dave Lertzman said. “It’s like a puzzle, trying to move the pieces around. I move one piece and a hole is left somewhere else.”
