Crespi High running back Jerry Thompson scored on a 15-yard run with 2:47 remaining Friday night to lead the Celts (4-1) to a 10-0 victory in an error-filled game at Bishop Montgomery.
Crespi fumbled 10 times, losing five, and was penalized 60 yards, but the Celts’ defense held Bishop Montgomery to 55 total yards to secure the team’s fourth consecutive victory. Bishop Montgomery (3-2) fumbled twice, losing one, and was hit with 80 yards in penalties.
Crespi’s defense was the key as the Celts blocked a first-quarter field-goal attempt. Then, late in the fourth quarter, Crespi held Bishop Montgomery on fourth down with a foot to go at the Bishop Montgomery 24.
Crespi then put together a three-play, scoring drive, capped by Thompson’s run, to close out the scoring.
Crespi had taken a 3-0 lead on Bill Canalez’s 43-yard field goal late in the second quarter.
